Welcome To Bulmer St Andrew's C Of E Primary School

Pupil workingWe are a small rural primary school set on the picturesque border between Suffolk and Essex. Our catchment area is made up of many small villages: Bulmer. Gestingthorpe, Middleton, Great and Little Henny, Twinstead, Borley, Foxearth, Pentlow, Liston and Wickham St. Paul. We also take children from outside our catchment area. Transport to Bulmer is provided by the Local Authority if you live within our catchment area.

We are a welcoming school with a family atmosphere.

"Bulmer St Andrews provides a good quality of education for its pupils. Pupils of all ages interact and behave well, and are highly considerate and very supportive of each other in lessons and around school. They enjoy school and attendacne is above average. This has a positive impact on the ethos of the school and on learning." Ofsted December 2009

"A welcoming, vibrant environment has the school vision at its heart, evidenced by displays, documentation and its ownership by staff and pupils alike.  Great care and attention has been given to provide a curriculum  which meets the needs of the whole child.  This has a real impact on pupils who feel involved and valued. The values of respect and self-respect underpin relationships at all levels, and positive role modelling influences pupils in their friendships and support for one another.  A parent highlighted the positive play between all ages. A pupil stated “we can talk our worries through together” Diocese Inspection February 2010

Our ethos based on developing the whole child, academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually by offering a wide range of experiences. Our safe, caring learning environment encourages children to take risks in their learning, be resilient and learn from mistakes without fear of being 'wrong'. We encourage our children to reflect on their learning and develop the life skills to work as part of a team.

We have strong links with our local secondary school, Hedingham School, working with staff to provide additional sporting experiences and close liaison to ensure smooth transition onto your child's next phase of education.

Our curriculum and how we teach it.

We offer a broad and balanced curriculum, enriched with real life experiences. Key skills within National Curriculum subjects are planned to link together; this allows skills or concepts from one subject may be applied within another. The real world isn't pigoen holed into neat boxes, so we help to develop those links in our curriculum.

This cross-curricular approach is taught through a range of learning strategies. As learners we all progress in different ways. Some people are visual learners, for example seeing things through diagrams, pictures or written down; others learn through listening, speech and music; some need to do in order to grasp new learning. We use a blend of strategies to enable pupils to engage with learning. We encourage independent, self-motivated learners - life long learners, that are confident to move onto the next phase of their education.
